Why “it shall pass” ?
I recently came across a quote that resonated deeply with me: “This too shall pass.” It made me realize that everything in life is temporary; joy and sorrow are two sides of the same coin. Without experiencing sadness, one cannot truly appreciate happiness. To me, this quote encapsulates the delicate balance of life—a journey filled with highs and lows, dark tunnels with light at the end, and moments of calm before the storm. The fluctuations of life offer us countless lessons, far beyond the confines of textbooks and syllabi. These lessons emerge from the rich tapestry of our experiences, each one shaping our character, expanding our perspectives, and equipping us with invaluable skills. Life is a continuous process of learning, a dynamic journey where every achievement is merely a pause on the path, and the final destination is inevitable—death.
The Journey of Life: From Innocence to Wisdom
In my view, babies, despite their complete dependence on caregivers, embody the purest form of innocence on this planet. Innocence in children represents a beautiful simplicity, a lack of worldly knowledge, and an untainted purity untouched by the complexities of life. As we age, we encounter a myriad of unique and often perplexing situations, meet diverse individuals with whom we share varied personal dynamics, and these experiences foster profound personal growth. They enhance our resilience, adaptability, and decision-making abilities, equipping us to better handle life’s unpredictable twists and turns.
Yet, as we acquire these essential life skills, we inevitably lose some of the purity and innocence that once defined us. Life, in its relentless fairness and unfairness, teaches us lessons that extend far beyond the confines of traditional education. Elderly individuals are often deemed wise, not merely because of their age but due to the wealth of experiences they have accumulated over time. They have witnessed the full spectrum of life , the beautiful and the ugly, the just and the unjust and through these experiences, they have gained a deep understanding, sharpened judgment, and a level of insight that leaves little to surprise them. Life, after all, is an unending journey of growth and learning.
The Enduring Impact of Life’s Lessons
The lessons imparted by life are deeply embedded in an individual’s consciousness, not only due to the firsthand experiences they offer but also because their outcomes—whether marked by triumph or failure, joy or despair, heartbreak or recovery—leave indelible imprints of either agony or bliss, forever engraving themselves upon our souls. Much like in mathematics, where the basics of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division lay the groundwork for solving more complex equations, the seemingly smaller lessons gleaned throughout life invariably equip us to navigate challenges in the future. Thomas Edison, the renowned inventor of light bulb, experienced over a thousand failures while developing the light bulb.
Rather than viewing these setbacks as defeats, he considered them invaluable lessons. Edison famously remarked, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” His unwavering persistence and optimistic perspective on setbacks were crucial to his eventual success. Similarly , every tiny thing that happens in your life is not depriving you of anything instead is cultivating essential life skills . Life challenges individuals to nurture themselves personally, pulling them out of their comfort zones, eventually, leading them to the path of self-discovery. .
